Skills are levelled up while you do certain activities. They provide you rewards in the form of items, Relic Coins, and unlocked abilities that enhance your gameplay.
Most of your skills will level up passively while simply playing the game!
Skills are an excellent source of Relic Coins. You get an amount awarded to you every few levels.
Access the skills menu.

Acrobatics: Falling, Visiting Biomes for the first time, Walking, Flying
Battling: Defeating Pokemon and Trainers
Breeding: Hatching Pokemon
Catching: Catching Pokemon
Crafting: Crafting Items, Enchanting Tools and Armor, Smelting Ore
Excavation: Excavating dirt, sand and similar materials with shovels
Fishing: Both Pixelmon and vanilla Fishing
Herbalism: Farming Crops and breaking certain blocks
Mining: Breaking stone and ore related blocks with pickaxes
Training: Leveling up Pokemon
Woodcutting: Breaking wood blocks with axes
These skills are NOT currently available.
Archery: Use bows, Bows get better.
Axemanship: I must Axe you a question.
Cleric: Heal yourself, your armor, and your friends.
Martial Arts: Attack with your hands or stick, become Monk
Necromancy: Summon the undead and damage them too
Paladin: Health buff allies, heal self, kill undead.
Rogue: Be sneaky and do more damage from behind
Sorcerer: cast spells like mage armor and Lightning Bolt!
Spellbreaking: Blink forwards and be anti-magic'y
Swordsmanship: SWARD? SORD? SWORD!
Warlock: A medium ranged damaging spell, Eldritch blast!
Wizard: Damaging fire spells and a few utility spells
Binding Abilities to Items
Many Skills have activatable abilities that need to be bound to specific items to use.
Most abilities have a cooldown, so use them with intent.
To bind an item:
Place the item in your inventory (a stack of items can't be bound)
Click the skill in the skills menu to bind it to an item.
Select the item in your inventory that you wish to use.
Right-click while holding the bound item to use the ability.

Passive abilities improve as you level up the related skill
Acrobat (Passive) - Negates some amount of fall damage.
World Traveler (Bind) - Move faster for a time.
Resilience (Passive) - Reduced physical damage taken and immunity to poison.
Long Jump (Bind) - Jump further than normal.
High Jump (Bind) - Jump higher than normal.
Experienced Battler (Passive) - Extra experience gain from trainer battles.
First Aid (Passive) - All fainted Pokemon will be returned to 1 HP after battles.
Battle Cry (Bind) - Restores HP and PP to the party Pokemon.
Silver Tongue (Passive) - Extra Pokedollar gain from battles.
Double Yolk (Passive) - Chance to gain 2 duplicate eggs from breeding.
Experienced Breeding (Passive) - REduced daycare egg production duration.
Incubator (Passive) - Improved hatching rate.
CRISPR (Passive) - Improved shiny rate and chance at higher IV's from breeding.
Experienced Catching (Passive) - Improved catch rate.
Humanitarian Capture (Passive) - Caught Pokemon are fully healed and have increased friendship.
Keen Eye (Passive) - Caught Pokemon have a chance at higher IV's.
All That Glitters (Passive) - Improved shiny spawn rate.
Forager (Passive) - Chance to find items in tall grass.
Experienced Crafting (Passive) - Crafting certain items gives enchanting experience.
Repairman (Passive) - Anvil repairs are more effective.
Eternal Flame - Fuels a furnace for a very long time. Activate by sneak + left clicking an unlit furnace.
Twinned Smelt (Passive) - Chance to smelt two items instead of one.
Digger's Delve (Bind) - Gain Haste, Speed and Fortune on shovels for a brief time.
Careful Touch (Passive) - Reduces durability loss for shovels.
Landscaping (Bind) - Destroys grass, dirt, sand and gravel around you automatically doer a short time, while holding a shovel.
Layer By Layer (Bind) - Breaks dirt and other excavation resources around you while you dig.
Extractinator (Passive) - Shovelled blocks drop many times their normal drops.
Luck of the Sea (Passive) - Improved drops and encounters with fishing rods.
Ice Fishing (Passive) - Fishing hooks that land on ice create an opening to the water below them.
Open Seas - Store and summon a boat. Sneak and right click a boat to store. Summon by right clicking a block below water.
Waterbreathing (Passive) - Can breather underwater.
Pickpocket Angling - Fishing hooks drag items out of the pockets of creatures hit.
Circle of the Spores - Can use mushrooms to make mycelium by hitting a dirt block with a mushroom.
Circle of the Moon (Passive) - Harvest more crops at night.
Circle of the Land (Bind) - Fertalizes all crops around you in one go.
Timeless Body (Passive) - No longer require food or air.
Miner's Madness (Passive) - Gain Haste, Speed and Fortune on pickaxes for a brief time.
Experienced Miner (Passive) - Increased experience gain from mining ore.
Vein Miner - Mine veins of ore in one go by sneaking and mining with a pickaxe.
Magnetic Field (Bindable) - Pick up items in a very large radius.
Perfect Extraction (Passive) - Occasionally mine blocks instead of ores.
I Wanna be the Very Best (Passive) - Pokemon retain some experience when they level.
Like No-one Ever Was (Passive) - Pokemon gain double EV's. Can be toggled on and off.
To Catch Them is my Real Test (Passive) - Pokemon earn extra experience from wild battles.
To Train Them is my Cause (Passive) - Pokemon have a chance to gain an IV point when they level up.
Timber's Touch (Bindable) - Gain Haste, Speed and Fortune on axes for a brief time.
Defoliate (Passive) - Axes can destroy leaves instantly.
Perfect Chop (Passive) - Chance for a wooden crafted item to drop instead of a log.
Wood Stripper - Break tree segments in one go by sneaking and breaking logs with an axe.
Tree Feller - Fells trees in one go by left clicking the base of a tree with an axe 5 times.
